Sino-European Institute of Aviation Engineering
In order to meet the urgent needs of the Chinese civil aviation industry for advanced aviation engineering and technical talents, to significantly improve the quality and level of cultivating elite engineering and management talents, and to cultivate future aviation engineers with a sense of responsibility, rich engineering practice and innovation capability, GEA (Groupement des ?coles Aéronautiques et spatiales) and Civil Aviation University of China(CAUC) cooperated and established Sino-European Institute of Aviation Engineering(SIAE) in 2007 with utmost support from CAAC and DGAC, the Ministry of Education as well as the Chinese and European aviation companies. Milestones are as follows:
March 24th, 2004, CAAC, DGAC as well as Ministry of Education signed MOU in Tianjin;
October 18th, 2004, LOI was signed in Toulouse;
March 28th, 2005, Framework agreement was signed in Beijing;
March 28th, 2005, Annex 1 under the framework agreement was signed in Beijing;
February the 15th, 2006, “Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Application” was signed;
November 21st , 2006, Chinese Ministry of Education assigned experts to assess this project;
April, 2007, Chinese Ministry of Education approved the establishment of SIAE.
Sino-European Institute of Aviation Engineering (SIAE) is the only “Aviation Engineer College” in China that was approved by the Ministry of Education and co-founded by the Civil Aviation University of China (CAUC) and the French Aerospace University (GEA) in 2007. SIAE draws on the French engineer education model, makes full use of the cooperation platform established by Sino-French cooperative colleges and enterprises, fully draws on the French elite preparatory and elite engineer cultivation system with a purpose of cultivating versatile, trilingual aviation engineering technology and management talents featuring in profound mathematical foundation, systematic thinking, broad professional knowledge, engineering practicability, innovation capabilities, cross-cultural communication and communication skills.
The establishment of SIAE was not only the beginning of the cooperation between the Chinese and French governments, higher education institutions and aviation companies in cultivating the elite talents of China's civil aviation industry, it also marked an attempt to localize the French engineers' education system that is unique in the world and has distinctive characteristics.
Bachelor:Engineering of Flying Vehicles
Master:Mechanical Engineering (with three academic focuses):
① Aircraft Structure and Materials;②Aero-Propulsion System;③ Avionics System.
SIAE adopts "Bachelor + Master" schooling system, which is divided into two cycles: elite preparatory cycle and elite engineer cycle. Teaching activities are carried out in Chinese, French or English.
According to SIAE’s Talents Fostering Program, students who meet the graduation requirements will receive:
Bachelor degree of Flying Vehicle Engineering, CAUC
Specialized Master of Mechanical Engineering, CAUC
Titres d'Ingénieur, which is approved by French Government and also certified by EU.
The faculty team of SIAE consists of famous experts from CAAC, GEA and aviation companies (such as Airbus, Safran, etc.), including many famous professors, PhD supervisors and senior research and development team leaders, senior managers, senior engineers from Fortune 500 companies.
Corporate internship is an important part of the French engineer education model. Students will be sent to China Airlines, European Aerospace and other domestic and foreign companies and research and development institutions for internships during their studies. For the different stages of aviation education, Worker Internship, Technician Internship and Final Studies Internship (PFE) were designed.
